Thanks. To be honest, the table is from Ikea (Liatorp). The oldest intact book I have is my 1814 Ovid.

I wouldn't take a fragile book around that way, but if you always keep a thin hard book in your pack (I use an old French Smurfs book) to take damage, you can usually get away with just sliding the valuable book into a plastic bag and putting it in the laptop slot. Otherwise, go to an art supply store/dollar store/Staples and get a plastic pencil-case of appropriate size.
