>Do you follow your curiosity?
Of course. In a world with so many things vying for your attention, it's important follow that golden thread
>Do you read what you ought to read?
I'm reading through the Western canon currently. I want to establish a good baseline for literary quality. It's difficult to judge unless you have some reference.
>do you read whatever /lit/ tells you to?
There are a number of chads here but most of these chimpanzees don't even fucking read. If you are newer this is essential to know.

Mostly it's intrest but if you're intrested in anything complicated then comprehending it is going to require you to be familiar with certain other authors. Philosophy is a good example. Anyone who just starts with Nietzsche and goes "yeah, I completely understand" has only been made more stupid.
