How do people end up with cracked screens? Is it genuine accidents or avoidable carelessness.

No one in my family seems to have ever had cracked screens. I haven't even known any of my cousin's to have cracked screens. We all seem to get a decent case and seems to survive regular drops.

Yet my brother's wife since ive known her seems to have cracked nearly all of the phones she has owned at some point and both their kids have iPads that have cracked screens. I don't get it, to me it seems like pure carelessness and dumbassery. How does this shit happen seeing I've never had a cracked screen since owning smart phones and I've dropped my phone on concrete and parking lots. Also if a screen has a glass screen protector and it still somehow gets a crack. What's the likelihood of it being cracked behind the protector screen too?

Is it reasonable to even consider it a red flag? Because I'm pretty certain my brother's wife is giving him a lot of issues that he leads on, as in I suspect she might be bpd/bipolar. Makes me even wonder if she throws her phone or whatever on purpose
