>correction being 5000 words = 50 usd
The going rate for some editors, the ones with big portfolios, can exceed $2000 just to copyedit an 80k word novel. That does not include proofreading.

I told an anon in that thread it just depends on what you like. I thought it was worth it but if you're strictly into literary fiction I'm letting you know that's not what it is. It's cheesy but I need that every now and then. The reason I got it was because it was about fembots and although the story doesn't think too deeply about the topic I think it gives a satisfying take on it. This board has better produced better work.

An agent will take 15% usually, but not until they get you published. In the US you 100% require agents for the big 5 publishers. Advertisers, publicists and other people you need to work with also cost money to get people talking about your book in stores and from influencers on youtube, instagram etc. Depending on the size of the company you have to do more of that work. I think usually you are provided an editor but I have not gotten to that point yet. I'm sure there are more costs but basically if you don't pony up money people in the industry think you're not confident or serious about writing more than a single book and they're often looking for someone who is serious about making a career.
