Atheist here. Always have been.

Reminds me of this guy I was friends with that was super christian from a christian family and all. At the time I was kind of pissed at religion so we had a couple of friendly debates, but nothing happened, we would just mess with each other and that's it. We lost contact, but recently he found me again on social media. Now I see he is an atheist himself and a cunt at that, messing up with christians online and how it's all lies and stuff, very annoying, stuff I would never do myself.

Meanwhile, ironically, I met and worked with some pretty great local christian priests that lived a life that was really of charity and love. They helped homeless people around town, I saw them giving hope to thousands of them, aiding them out of drugs and stuff like that. They didn't know or even asked if I was an atheist, I did't go to church with them, but we would occasionally pray together and I would ask for their blessing all the same. I also read on religion every once in a while, christianity, buddhism, sufism, I think it's all very interesting. When with christians, be like a christian, when with an atheist, be like an atheist.

My friend however, since he was brought up a christian and later lost his faith, was very pissed off at "the lies of religion", which is understandable because he felt betrayed. I was pissed of like that as a teenager, but since it was always something odd to me, I'm not that mad, you see?

After a while, whatever you make your mind about, I hope you see that it doesn't really matter. It's not important what exists or doesn't at a level that is, per definition, not tangible to us. It doesn't matter what goes on inside our head to explain the world, the names we give to it, religiously, scientifically, what have you, cosmogony is not that interesting, it's our attempt to one-up existence itself. How dare us specks of dust assume we know anything about this immensity? Our telecospes do not reach that far and neither does our petty little selves.

We don't need to know where evil comes from to respond with goodness just the same. Any excuse will be used as an excuse to do good and to do evil, people have always been like that whether they admit it or not. Debating is trivial when you put it in perspective, all of that which we are missing when we distract ourselves with our differences of language. The objective things we can do to better our journey here cannot wait for us to decide on the why.

Read Kierkegaard and watch Tarkovsky films.

Is there a book out there where the main character incidentally comes across a person/people throughout his life/book in need of help (either emotionally or anything trivial) and makes their day/life better with the advice he gives or opens up a whole new perspective for them. I hope I don't get any flack but I was thinking about a Mushi-shi type of novel or like a Gospel type of story.

If there isn't maybe I'll start one myself, under a different name, if it's shit which is often the case.

I would like to be a part of this. I've been pretty interested in Christian theology lately, though I've never even read the Bible or any primary sources of the classical texts. Have you guys heard of David Bentley Hart? I find his popular audience books really enjoyable.

Anyway, my name's Kyle, I'm an atheist.

Know any directors like Tarkovsky w/r/t slow pacing & spirituality?
