>Socrates was le wise

There's more profundity in a single act of Shakespeare than in the entirety of the Apology and Phaedo.

Modern fantasy writers don't read anything except other fantasy books and it's starting to show. For once, could we get a fantasy author that comes from a literary background? Who will be the next Wolfe or Tolkien?

The first organised date I ever went on, I thought she was christian because of the photos she sent me.
I was raised christian although consider myself agnostic now, the sense of morals appealed to me at the time, how she might be a departure from the women I'd met in university.

We met up near a mild mannered restaurant and she then proceeded to convey after each bite and sip how she wanted to fuck this roommate who she presented as super popular, loud & generally disrespectful. She planted the word 'sex' in sentences even when slightly off-topic. Criticised a bunch of people, told me her troubles of the past year in excruciating detail, hardly asked me a damn thing about myself aside from what job I had and what my parents did.
It was almost like I had no reason to be there, she talked about how she believed in one person in a relationship being dominant etc.
As she started dancing in her seat to the restaurant music with a playful grin I knew my heart should be warmed by her expression, quite the opposite, I was disgusted.
It felt like I had no soul I was so opposed to her dance of blood-lust. I don't want to comprehend how awful she's been to live around.
I didn't respond and then she kept texting me back ad nauseam.

Why should I want to be in her life, let alone want to be it's dominant figure?
I'm not insinuating all these girls are like this, but on some level it's a train-wreck and I don't want to be a part of it. For what? Pussy? A half-hearted attempt at love, if that? To be the utterly complacent figure in her online photos? Terrible company? I'm at a loss for even finding what rationale there is to even want to date.

No, I played left 4 dead and street fighter with my friends and I liked evil dead 2 and watchmen. I was also getting really into King Crimson at the time. I didn't really care or know about serious literature until a few years ago when I realized the videogame and movie industry is plagued by corporate cookie cutter business tactics and I had no other forms of media or entertainment to fall on. I didn't really care about philosophy because I find it extremely boring and lifeless.

Now all I want to do is write a book because it's too expensive to make movies and I am too dumb to make videogames.

I have never read something more pretentious or self-absorbed.

If you are a casual reader, you can't recognize when a book with decent prose is marred by a plot that absolutely ruins a book. If you are a casual reader, you aren't analyzing key details about structure and character development. Pretending to that you are some empty shell for simple aesthetic choice of words to "wash over you" is lame as hell and also makes you stupid.

There is poetry in words, there is poetry in plot, there is poetry in dialogue, there is poetry in character development.

A piece of fiction is always about the whole, and for you to appreciate the whole you must learn to analyze all forms that take place in a piece of fiction.
