This books is written in such an unclear and imprecise way. The advice itself seems to be about applying deeply ingrained instinctual behaviours of bugman worker-drones to the activity of reading. Did anyone get any value out of this? Why is it so highly rated?

So according to some people on here, the point is to read deeply with only select books, not with everything because there isn't enough time. I know Shakespeare is worth it, but what else?

>only 50 pages in
>Starts detailing how I should be scribbling all over my book while I read it
>My faith has been lost

Who here actually writes in their books 'regularly'? I'll continue working through this book as it does still seem useful, albeit "with a pinch of salt", but I absolutely cannot abide book scribbling. It's not as if those written notes are any more transportable than the source text itself if you've gone and scrawled them in the book, and underlining stuff just seems pretentious. If you must make notes, use a notebook for god's sake.

If you can't read a book you can't read this.
If you can read it you don't need it.

You have encountered a book above your level for the first time. Read pic related if you haven't already. A text like PS requires an analytical reading. That means reading it more than once and taking extensive notes.

What should I read to learn how to criticize fiction intelligently?

Is pic related it too pleb?

Is this question inherently pleb?

>books to help you talk about fiction beyond "it was difficult", "not my taste," and "reminds me of similar author"
