I want to write a fiction book just for the fuck of it.
What are some realistic expectations I should accept? I know this is a very broad question, but I have no experience writing anything that didnt have to be turned in in 2 weeks, so I dont know specific questions to ask.

Argument ad populum. If he dies, he won't exist anymore so there is no "better option." The current options that exists are the best possible option- to reduce suffering from 100% to 99% or even less if possible. You aren't moving from a bad point A to a better point B. You just stop existing after point A.

What "course" of 10 to 30 books, fiction and nonfiction, would you use to take your average peon and push them towards being an engaged human.

I would start with Greek and Latin philosophy. Complete works of Plato, complete works of Aristotle, Meditations, The Discourses, Letters From a Stoic.

Then the trivium, starting with Moore's on creative and critical thinking, and then a book each on logic, rhetoric, and grammar (plenty of options for each).

Then an intro textbook each on math, physics, biology, astronomy, and geosciences (kind of my weak spot, I don't know of a lot of good textbooks).

I'd follow with two or three volumes on western theory, a volume on the middle east and/or the subcontinent, two volumes on china, japan, and korea, a volume on africa and a volume on amerindia.

Then a few good pieces of fiction and autobiography. Musashi, Wind Sand and Stars, Storm of Steel, Three Musketeers, Eugene Onegin, and Quiet Flows the Don.

Tell me why it's shit, what I missed, and what you would pick instead.

How do i know my writing is good?I think I'm half decent, but i might be biased towards my own work and a publisher might quickly discard me for being an amateur.
I want to know it's good enough not to completely waste their time.
