i've been thinking of starting the Martian Series (aka John Carter stuff) by Edgar Rice Burroughs. i'm okay with pulpy action if that's what it is but i'm a little curious to know why this series in particular has been so enduring? what was so good about it? what was not good about it? most importantly, it looks like there are 10 books in the "series"--are all worth reading? if not, when should i stop?
