Hey /lit/ thought I'd try my luck here as I find it increasingly difficult to trust goodreads what so ever. Anyway has anyone here read any of China Mieville's books?

They seemed to have an interesting premise mostly and entertaining, but many reviews I've seen compare him to a poorman's Gaiman and being pretentious, two phrases that just don't strike me as being the criticism they seem to be intended as. Any way, opinions?
