I kinda liked his Haviland Tuf stories, but they were consciously written as a Jack Vance pastiche... I tried to read GoT but it was just too awful, I valiantly got to page 40 and decided to stop torturing myself. He just is not very skilled at writing IMO, but then his fans are apparently not very demanding, so they make a good match.

Who cares? I don't even notice his stuff... Tried the GoT books, could not get past the first chapter, and realised that there was no reason to bother. I did like his Haviland Tuf stories, tey were the only reason I tried to read GoT... Of course, I realise now that the Tuf stories were a conscious Jack Vance pastiche. That was what made them readable. And even they aren't all THAT great.
