I saw the trailer for the movie, but everyone around me who has read it says that even if it ends up good, the book will be better.

Should I read it /lit/?

I was recommended Book of the New Sun.
I've read it but I didn't like it.
Can you help me pls.

God bless you all +

I went to my local library and decided to pick this up. But there are like 8 "dune" novels each around 800 pages. Is it only the first one that most people read and the future film is about?

Good evening, /lit/.

I'm not one of you, so my tastes are probably considered plebeian. However, I hope that you can still give me some advice. I just finished reading pic related, and I quite enjoyed it. I found the start to be a little slow, but when the pace picked up all the worldbuilding really started to pay off.

I was eager to jump into the sequel, but then I heard some *very* mixed reviews of it, and I'm not quite sure whether it's worth my time. Although other voices are saying the bad reviews are just because people don't like seeing their hero turn into a villain.

So, is Dune Messiah a decent book, or does it deserve the lower ratings it gets?

Also Dune general I suppose.

When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

Time to grow up, /lit/.

Slightly different from the normal threads on this board, but this will hopefully get a response. In Dune, the armies of the future fight with swords and armor because of energy shields which prevent projectile weapons from being used. With this in mind, why don't they just use poison gas? It doesn't seem like something a shield would keep out.

I've been reading through the book and am almost done with it. Supposedly its supposed to be some allegory or something, but it's not all that interesting. Not bad, but not amazing. What is everyone else's take on this book?

>THIS is abandoment -- we can never be sure, so instead, we must pick.

But those who pick correctly are rewarded. This has always been true, no matter what the circumstances, what the times. They are adorned with blessings, either in this life or the next.

So I just finished reading Dune.

>Book 1
>"Oh cool, it's sort of like Song of Ice and Fire but in space"
>Also I guess perceiving other people's intentions is a super power for some reason
>Book 2
>"Okay yeah, I get it the bad guy is a fat, gay, disgusting pedo. Can we move on?"
>Book 3
>Making up words and calling it Science Fiction: The Book

Remind me why it's considered a classic?
Literally the only worthwhile thing to come out of this is the setting itself.
