If Adam could never have transgressed against God's commandments, it seems he would never have been truly free, because he would not have had the capacity to transgress against God in paradise. The fruit of knowledge of good and evil (ego) was the mechanism whereby humanity would be able to use their free-will to eventually make their way to God, through the incarnation.

"And Adam and Eve—for that is the name of the woman— were naked, and were not ashamed; for there was in them an innocent and childlike mind, and it was not possible for them to conceive and understand anything of that which by wickedness through lusts and shameful desires is born in the soul. For they were at that time entire, preserving their own nature; since they had the breath of life which was breathed on their creation: and, while this breath remains in its place and power, it has no comprehension and understanding of things that are base. And therefore they were not ashamed, kissing and embracing each other in purity after the manner of children.

But, lest man should conceive thoughts too high, and be exalted and uplifted, as though he had no lord, because of the authority and freedom granted to him, and so should transgress against his maker God, overpassing his measure, and entertain selfish imaginings of pride in opposition to God; a law was given to him by God, in order that he might perceive that he had as lord the Lord of all. And He set him certain limitations, so that, if he should keep the commandment of God, he should ever remain such as he was, that is to say, immortal; but, if he should not keep it, he should become mortal and be dissolved to earth from whence his formation had been taken. Now the commandment was this: Of every tree that is in the Paradise thou shalt freely eat; but of that tree alone from which is the knowledge of good
and evil, of it thou shalt not eat; for in the day thou eatest, thou shalt surely die." (St. Irenaeus, Demonstration of the Apostolic Preaching)

>Yeah, I struck a nerve.
Keep telling that to yourself, I'm literally shaking over here.
>Please take some time to reflect upon yourself
You responded to my post specifically to make false accusations towards me. Why don't you take your own advice, and keep your useless musings to yourself?

>If you aren't donating to charitable causes you literally skipping the easiest possible route to helping someone.
You help no one. God does.
When Christ willingly mounted the cross, he was not taking the easy route.
God is only interested in your actions, not the results. He sees straight through your short-cuts.
>Donating to a charitable cause should be your most basic form of charity, not something that you may or may not get around to.
"Many will say to me in that day: Lord, Lord, have not we prophesied in thy name, and cast out devils in thy name, and done many miracles in thy name?
"And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, you that work iniquity."

To live a Christian, isn't something you "may or may not get around to", it is a daily struggle. Covering the "basics" of going to Church every Sunday or donating to Charity will not save your soul. Those small things you do every day and how you treat the people around you is all that interests God, and if you really were interested in helping and touching the people he put in your life for a reason, you would not have much left over for charity.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions, my son. So often do we say to ourselves "I'll get around to it", only to never follow through. In a poorly translated homily of St. Augustine's: 'God has promised forgiveness to your repentance, but He has not promised tomorrow to your procrastination'. We don't know when that last day is but it may be sooner than you think.

Nothing of value was lost.
DFW was an overrated pretentious child of two professors, who grew up in luxury and abundance. He had everything there for him and never knew struggle. Yet, he killed himself. Their connections opened doors for him that otherwise would not have been possible. His success is rather their success. He was more intelligent than average but that's a low bar, if you're very intelligent, he's below you. It's obvious seeing interviews of him that he was a total, pseud. The smart enough to bullshit but not smart enough to really think. His life can be summed up as "wrote and spoke much, but said very little".

Suffering makes you a better person. It bestows humility, not arrogance and pretentiousness. Foster was self-absorbed, hollow, and empty and knew that he was a fraud. He may have redeemed himself had he admitted to this prior to the act of ending his own life, but, he didn't or at least his parents did not disclose his final admission of defeat.

His story is a reminder that having an abundance of money, time and connections opens more doors than actual talent.

He is fantastic and should be read by each literate member of our 200 million numbered tribe. But he is political and polemical. Taylor is not a literary figure and is not even tangentially related to literature like Peterson is. I am a white American but i have not read him in almost half a year. Disregard the opinions of the continentals in this thread- the fate of White America does matter to the west no matter their inane old-world slogans.
