But what qualifies being like this? Very few people are going to remember every book theyve read in great detail. Even here, what do I mean by great detail? Being able to speak entire paragraphs on call? What do they mean by just scraps?

> I can't help but scoff at the simple, phil101 messages of the majority fiction

I know this feel

What I do is completely focus on style, the prose. The more focused and small a story is, the more important the dialogue and characters are, the more I can forgive whatever message is being put across.

Going this way though will be trial and error. You have to figure out what good prose is for you. There is the generally bad, but you have to figure out for yourself what is good.

For example most people dont really like Salinger. They enjoy him and Catcher but thats about it. I would recommend Franny and Zooey, and his short story collection, Nine Stories.

Try short stories to find what you like. Try Joyce, Salinger, Carver, Hemingway, Kafka, and maybe even Borges.

2x rather small booklets, no spines, marbled papers with faux leather label stamped in gold. covers are now hardback. one was an offprint so no cover, the other was stapled on so easy to remove staples and card cover, then resew and rebind as hardback.
