best book/s and worst book you've read this year
I start
Best:
Madonna in a Fur Coat
Nine Stories
Season of Migration to the North
Worst: The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath (Pissed me off)

Also, I will do last year as well
Best: Stoner, Confessions of a Mask
and the Book of Disquiet
Worst: Kafka on le epic shore (it made 0 sense, and was a waste of time).

Quite rarely do I come to this board to actually discuss books but when I do it's a very special book. I read this book a while ago but came back to it today and I'm just blow away by it. I especially commend Meredith Weatherby for her suberd translation. I don't know what it is or how Yukio did it but the entire book had a ethereal and very abstract feel to it. Like, it's hard to describe in words since I'm not as well read or well spoken as some of you other guys are here but even the beginning sentence already puts you in a state of awe. Like, imagine if chill lofi music mixed in with psychological horror. Really hard to explain but it really did put you in the shoes of the boy in the book. It's by far the most realest book that I've ever read. A book that literally sucks you in and changes your whole mood. Was hoping for either a discussion thread or similar book recommendation thread.

Just finished reading Confessions of a Mask. While I realize that relatability isn't what makes for a good novel, I was struck by how well Mishima managed to convey certain aspects of homosexuality. For instance, not even realize you're gay despite all evidence pointing towards it, not even entertaining that possibility until relatively "late." What does /lit/ think of it?

Considering your own experience, do you think Mishima's opinion of heterosexual men feelings for women is accurate.

I'm heterosexual and found myself closer to the author/Kochan than any of the heterosexual men he described.

About to finish. I think i'm reading a shit translation but otherwise its pretty great. I enjoyed it more than Sailor Who Fell From The Grace of the Sea. I really connect with the protagonist when he was a kid and i'm glad he's ultimately not remediable whatsoever.
