Frankly I don't even know why would I bother explaining this to someone who denounces himself as a midwit. But here it goes.
'The Foreign Service Institute (FSI) of the US Department of State has compiled approximate learning expectations for a number of languages based on the length of time it takes to achieve fluency.' You can see the picture below. I think that the thing should be clear now, but let me stress this out. IT'S EASIER TO LEARN A LANGUAGE THAT IS SIMILAR TO THE ONE YOU ALREADY SPEAK.
Now that we've dealt with the first batch of evidence, let us consider the relationship between Latin and Italian, or, for that matter, any other romance language (French, Spanish, Romanian etc.) They're descendants of Latin. It means that they evolved from Latin. It means they are similar to Latin. Just as you are similar to your parents. Okay?
So now combine those two statements in a simple syllogism and see what they amount to.
IT'S EASIER TO LEARN A LANGUAGE SIMILAR TO THE ONE YOU ALREADY SPEAK.
ITALIAN IS SIMILAR TO LATIN.

Now, if you use diligently your mental powers, you will inevitably come to a conclusion that IT'S EASIER TO LEARN LATIN FOR AN ITALIAN THAT IT IS FOR SOMEONE WHO DOESN'T SPEAK IT.

>If memory serves me, it was classified by the American Foreign Service Institute as one of the easiest languages for English speakers to learn

Your memory does not serve you well. Pic related.

>well yeah they're both germanic languages. it might be slightly harder than dutch or spanish something but it's still objectively one of the easiest languages for english speakers to learn

You have no clue what you're talking about. Pic related.

Russian or German since they are considerably more difficult than the Romance languages and you'll need more help and guidance and time to learn them. To choose between Russian or German think about which one you are more interested in, but also keep in mind Russian is definitely more difficult than German.

Doing a big fucking think.

Also, yes. American diplomats, studying full time, take more than two years to master the language. Do you honestly think that you can translate a deep sentence from such a fundamentally different language to english without either losing detail or having it sound retarded?
