Posted it on /lit/ before, if you've read this summary I'M SORRY I HAVEN'T FINISHED IT. I had to fix some shit, I have a fucking job, and I'm going to upload it here first when it's done so shut up.

Also, this will be a single sentence:
>A horror story about a killer with a comic book novelty mask that magically presents the perfect disguise who meets his match: a brother to a recent victim that has found his own magic novelty item.

Wrote about it before on /lit/, it's gone under extensive revisions but the core is the same. Let's see if I can summarize this properly...

It's called "Groucho". It takes place in a fictional industry town in Ohio, where the main character (Barry) returns home after a ten year self-imposed exile to find his sister murdered. He looks for clues and retraces the steps of his sister's final days, but also has to deal with the people of the town and some pretty heavy and challenges to his reality. Other main characters include a scorned former lover of Barry, a sort of sidekick/partner in his sister's fiancé, and an old sheriff that wants Barry out of town as soon as possible. Other than the mystery aspect, there's a heavy focus on horror. In fact, when the mystery is solved about halfway through the book, horror is what's left of any identifiable genre qualities.

The plot twist halfway through is a high-concept shock: Barry discovers his sister's stalker and kills him. He finds a pair of x-ray glasses (the cardboard ones with film and feathers that were advertised in comic books) on the stalker's dead body. Upon wearing them, Barry sees reality in a completely different way. Like "They Live", but no real political agenda (any more detail and I ruin the joy of reading that part of the book). After this, he discovers his sister's fiancé has been lying the entire time about who he is. He's been wearing a disguise the entire time, and the disguise is a novelty store pair of Groucho Marx glasses (no references to Groucho except the title itself).
>At this point, it's clear I've established a "comic book reality"

Barry discovers this man in hiding is a psychotic killer that hasn't been caught for decades, and needs to be stopped before he disappears or (even worse) he murders again.

how stupid is it /lit/? Have I wasted months of my life?
