hey /lit/ I just finished the first book of The Black Company.

I loved it, thought it had a lot more depth than most fantasy books and I really liked many of the character and I connected with Croaker and agreed with his choices.

But tell me straight, /lit/ does it get better or worse from here?

He can't write for shit but like most passable fantasy writers he has a good imagination (aka Martin).

I heard he wrote the first book on an oil drum during his lunches at work.

I'm having buyers remorse because I really hate authors that use overly complex words just for the sake of using big words. It went into the trash the second I seen a sunset described as lackadaisical.

Hey, /lit.
I'm going on an 8-hour boat-trip tomorrow, and I need something to entertain myself with, meaning nothing too damn heavy, like Moby Dick or The Master and Margarita or Ulysses. More like pic related.
I've got a kindle to read downloaded ebooks on, and a mp3-player if I'm tired to read, what with sea-sickness and all.

Can you recommend something interesting or worthwhile to spend at least 5-8 hours on?

Thoughts on these authors? I might buy Cornwell's Kingdom, Cook's Company and and Abercrombie's The Blade.

Not too similar to Diablo, but Glen Cook's The Black Company is okay dark fantasy for the first few books, anyway. Checkem out.

I looked at the rec image. What does pulpy-goodness tier mean? This book is a penny on Amazon so I'm going to pick up a copy. Did you guys like this book?

After reading Glenn Cooks Black Company series I want to read more fantasy books focusing on mercenaries. No sci-fi unless they are transported to an ancient time.
