Nihilism is your grandfathers funeral, the dump I just took in my backyard, and the stock market all at the same time.

my view is that the novel is an upstart medium and that poetry is the highest form of literature.
When you read enough novels, you realise that the driving element of this form, narrative, is largely superficial. Whereas the novelist relies on story as a framework to present his themes, the poet uses the power of images and the structure of verse to present pure ideas and insights without extraneous prose. Poetry can allow us to make philosophical insights that are inaccessible to the dialectic approach. Of all the forms of literature, poesy is best able to elevate our thoughts towards the highest level of beauty.
The epic is the highest form of poetry, and a skilled poet can use this medium to weave an intricate tapestry of ideas and meanings. Poetry is also a more powerful moral tool than any ethical treatise, and can make the benefits of the virtuous life self evident. Checkmate Plato

Indeed my friend to do so would be based
What care have you for scorn and reproval
of lesser men. For did our fathers not
In this fair mode of speech not only write
But even think. So brother fear not then
The ire of men who know not poesy's muse
Go forth you shall and be not cringe but based.

It is womanly to read novels, but masculine to read poetry. This is because the feminine character is concerned with trifles and gossip, and is hence attracted to stories of domestic drama and the like. The content of all novels is superfluous. Once one has read Shakespeare's opus in its entirety, he realises that the modern novel is merely the retelling of the same plots and themes under new guises.

The righteous man should love poetry because it channels a higher form of beauty which brings man into communion with the divine spirit. The female character lacks this virtue because they posses not the favour of the poetic muse (an exception here is the case of particularly masculine women).

I ruined a book by drinking and reading once :(
Blacked out and when I woke up the book was all munted, like the spine was broken and it was all bent, I think I accidentally rolled over it oops. Was sad because it was a nice old copy of keat's poetry, I still havent gotten over it (actually it was just the other night lol.) but anyway drinking and reading is mostly ok, I think wine amplifies the emotions so its nice for reading poetry but maybe not for philosphy
