I prefer this more serious discussion of the issues

Why would you want to be a famous writer, thinker, or philosopher?
Look around at the posters here. Look around at your classmates. Look at a wikipedia article on your favorite writer.
Why would you want to be any of them? Why would you want the attention of these people?
You can be a footnote in their never-ending intellectual competition, if you are incredibly successful. You probably won't. Someone might like your book. Who cares? You attract attention for nothing, suffer for worthless praise. You gain nothing. Better to aim for commerical success to serve your family's material needs. Intellectual fame is worth than worthless. It is ruinous. these people are clearly diseased. fame is worthless
