Anything in here about Notre Dame burning?

Has there ever been a book that was actually "deep", or are they all just pseudo philosophical concepts dressed up in pretty words? Give an example of a "deep" book, i dare you.

Have any of you guys actually read it? If so, is it worth the effort? How difficult is it as compared to Ulysses?

Hey anons. Just started reading Finnegan's Wake for the first time, and I wanted to ask what you think is the best approach to reading the book. I feel like I'm getting a basic understanding of where Joyce is trying to take me along, especially with a lot of the references to Irish slang and culture (I have family there).

How long did it take you to read? Should I spend my time trying to pick it apart and work out whatever story there is, or should that be saved for later readings of it? I've been trying to pick it apart and I'm barely twelve pages in after a couple hours.

Is Finnegans Wake modern or postmodern?
I always associated modern/postmodern to be synonymous with preWWII/postWWII, but FG does have many attributes that pomo lit has.
