You and all the other 30-something people in this thread, what's your deal?

I got my full time job when I was 28; before that, I had been unemployed for a whole year, but still worked as part of my unemployment plan or saught jobs on a daily basis.

What's going on with you?

I'll share my case. Share yours.

>study for 8 years
>finish around 27
>1 year joblessness, sub-par jobs where I'm not paid, get the same unemployment money I would without working, acquire experience
>register to a teaching school (with major buttfrustration since I had studied for 8 years already)
>find part time job
>find full time job
>have to make a choice between these three options
>chose the full time job
>no regrets

How can you be above 30 and not have a project? And may nobody tell me they're a fucking "indie writer" and are just waiting to finish their novel while mom and pop feed you with their retirement plan.

Now hold your horses, Jeb.

It is just as difficult to get an "experimental" book published as it is an "indie" film or video game. Case and point: Twilight and Harry Potter are two of the biggest selling books out there and neither take any risks or stray from cliched story-telling techniques.

In fact, since less people even read, it's most likely more difficult to get an "experimental" book published since it will procure even less money, and despite what idealism you may hold, every publisher's goal is to make a profit.

As for experimentation, there's only so much to be converyed in words, visual media, however, has limitless capabilities. Can a book re-create the catastrophic power of a nuclear explosion? No, it can only use insufficient adjectives. The visual experience is far more resounding than the read one.

Make him kill the protagonist half way through the novel. Then make an obscure character that's been kind of in the background this entire time the new protagonist.

Or make your villain the protagonist...
