Sup my fellow c/lit/erati

I'm writing a novel and I have a problem.

I'm trying to cut down my word number because there's a lot of stuff in there that's just not up to par. I have three scenes that I want to cut, in particular, but I can't get myself to get rid of any of them, because two involve symbols that return throughout the rest of the novel, and function more or less as setups, and the third involves the only development of one of the novel's major themes.
