Read picrel, and everything Atkinson wrote -- including the Kybalion, various books on yoga, various books on mind power -- takes on a new light.
Many of those early 20th c. guys were correspondence-course salesmen first and occultists/mytics tenth. The longest-running such scam has been the AMORC correspondence course, for which the cringey ads in various magazines alone should've disabused people of any notion that AMORC was spiritually legitimate.
