I've never really been on reddit, but my brother has and he told me to try it out.

I made an account, went to their r/lit, and asked what they thought of when a piece of fiction makes an argument for something like a philosophical position.

Someone responded and misunderstood what I was asking. He then deleted his comments and down voted everything I said. No one else responded.

No thanks.

Plus I dont get to post images there.

Salinger definitely when I was younger. Say what you want but those characters were so well made, and sometimes he even managed to have a witty voice for the narrator that didnt completely suck.

It depends on your style, just like youll have to find your own style in creating art.

It would be good to read famous books for their narrators, ones in first person and other in third person. Looking at Lolita and Catcher in the Rye, you can gain a lot in thinking about how a narrator can betray the reader. If you look at Joyce, you can see how the narrator can paint a very nice picture while letting the characters speak for themselves (he also does great first perosn narrative).

Btw, just so /a/ doesnt give you shit taste

Tatami Galaxy
Ping Pong
Mushishi
Neon Genesis Evangelion/ End of Evangelion (this is a big one)
Mononoke
Kaiba
Serial Experiments Lain
Nichijou (comedy but the animation is nice)
Welcome to the NHK (only for the presentation)

Movies
Akira
Ghost in the Shell
Jin-Roh
Most of Ghibli (Kiki, Totoro, The Red Baron, Spirited Away)

Good luck

So /lit/, how to start with the Greeks?

I'm currently reading an anthology of classical greek mythology and after this will start reading the actual works.

Which actual works of fiction should I read from Ancient Greece?

Which works of philosophy?

Also, does anyone have an image of the genealogy of the Greek Deities?

/lit/, I want to learn world history. Its been years since Ive studied history. Suggestions for texts or ways to go about studying it?

Ideally I'd like one book that gives a solid view, though I am aware that it will come with its own prejudice.
