I was in the thrift shop this afternoon, looking over the book section, when I noticed a man crouching over a small stack of books he'd set aside. He had half a dozen common titles, and he was holding a cell phone over the top book. Now, I've seen book dealers with pda's and cell phones that have bar code scanners and other apps that look up isbn numbers, but what he was doing was using a new photo recognition application that matched pictures he was taking of the covers to look up the books online and return the listing results to his phone, to see if they were worth buying for resale.

Brave new fucking world. Of course, you have to have no goddamn clue what you're doing to actually need an application like this. Any bookseller worth their salt knows books. Only fucking savages like this guy (his day job is running a construction company) would need something like this.

I mad.

Somehow I think this thread is irrelevant.
