That was in class. Outside of class I’m an oaf most of the time. Charming and likable to a fault. It’s hard to get anything done when everyone wants to talk to you. This is the internet where everyone can pretend to be whoever they want. I was just musing to OP my experiences in hopes it would help. I hate when I go into that ‘mode’ he’s asking about. It feels like a shotgun of words and concepts, but it gets the job done.

if you can get your hands on Pierre Drieu La Rochelle's The Fire Within, that. There are two good film adaptations though, if you can't get your hands on the book: Le Feu Follet by Louis Malle and (not as good but still feelsy) Oslo 31 August by Joachim Trier.

The Trial.

The parable of the law in particular was extremely poignant for me. Something about the way Kafka delivers his meaning is very powerful and unnerving.

It's short, for any interested parties...

I've little self left to abnegate, I'm familiar with Aurelius and thought him little more than a powerful testament to the impotence of man. His constant coping was graceful in its consistency, but hardly inspiring.

Nothing compels me to do so. Obviously I understand it as a superior mode of life, but how do I cross from point A to B? I cannot will myself across, when I've no will to do so. It's like some fucking Zeno's paradox.

Contrast the popularity of books with that of movies to the general person. Movies win out by a massive margin. Why? Because they don't require thought. They are obvious in every way, with diluted plots and linear characters and, most important I think, music lining everything, to tell the viewer exactly what to feel and think.

Difficulty disagrees with people, even when it is intellectually stimulating. They'd sooner have what's easy rather than suffer any discomfort or difficulty, even if it leads to something better.

obsessive, solitary, anxious

I often wonder if I am a piece of shit and if I'll die unfulfilled.
