Was he a Jew?
That could explain his smug and condescending tone.

Hey, I have a really normie taste in books because I've only read "the classics"

What books should I read next?

My favorites are

Kurt Vonnegut - Breakfast Of Champions
J.D. Salinger - Catcher In The Rye
Ernest Hemingway - The Old Man and The Sea

I recently read Breakfast of Champions and some of Vonnegut's short stories. Can anybody spoonfeed me a collection of his entire works because I think I am in love with this man?

>Beats shoes rhythmically against bar while waiting for bartender
>"A-rented-a-tent, a-rented-a-tent, a-rented-a-tent..."

> The bartender thanks him for his patronage
> "The worst thing that could possibly happen to anyone would be to not be used for anything by anybody. Thank you for using me. Even though I didn't want to be used by anybody."
> Uses an old worn out copy of Animal Farm as a coaster
> Stares post-traumatically into the distance

> "Did you know that Tralfamadorians and Canaries in Coal Mines are the only things worth writing about?"

What is lit opinion on this guy?
I've read half of his books and wasn't impressed. Some ideas were good, some thoughts were good, but I felt he had a condescending, arrogant tone and could fit in /r/iamsosmart sometimes.

I've read Cat's Cradle and Slaughterhouse Five, what's next? Any of his books I should avoid?
Vonnegut thread I guess.

Hi /lit/. Somewhat of a newfag to literature here. Can you recommend to me a more intellectually challenging version of Kurt Vonnegut? I like his writing style, but I'd like something with a little more depth.

I don't ever post on /lit/ so I don't know what to expect, I just really like Kurt Vonnegut and was curious what a board about literature had to say about him.
So far I've read Slaughterhouse 5, Cat's Cradle, Breakfast of Champions, The Sirens of Titan, Mother Night and am finishing God Bless You Mr. Rosewater.

/lit/'s thoughts on him?

Just finished Slaughterhouse-5 and I've got mixed opinions. Yeah it was funny in parts but I couldn't help but feel it was just all round a bit childish.

What are you thoughts /lit/?

People like to rag on him around here, and I understand where they come from, but I love the guy. I've read only a few of his works, but I thoroughly enjoyed all of them, maybe Slaughterhouse 5 the least (gasp)

For the most part, he's a teller of jokes. I don't think he had any delusions as to his place in the literary world. He loved people, he loved to laugh, and he saw his literature as a way to connect with people in a world that seems entirely mad but maybe not beyond repair. I'm sure he would have been a good guy to go to the pub with.

what does /lit/ think of Kurt Vonnegut? I've read Slaughterhouse-Five, Cat's Cradle, and am currently on Breakfast of Champions. I'm really into his writing style. Any other must read books by him?
