Is this book worth it? It seems that cover a lot of stuff, it is too didactic or what? I read the first chapter and seems a little confusing. Should I buy it?

good non-fiction along the lines of GEB?

i just finished it a while ago, and while there were some aha moments the scope was so large it didn't quite all come together for me. i was only able to superficially understand the formal logic and things like godel numbering. but it introduced a lot of fascinating concepts.

How many people would be interested in starting a /lit/ GEB reading club?

hey /lit/

so i started reading a bit of Godel Escher Bach at the local bookstore, and i'm wondering if it loses something in the experience in transfer to e-book. i know Hofstadter in the preface to the 20th anniversary edition said that he wouldn't want it to be on a CD-ROM (remember those?) since it was written to be read in dead tree... but flipping around to view illustrations is a lot easier if it's hyperlinked. on the other hand, it might be a part of the experience, like working out the MU problem.

so for those of you who've read it both ways, which do you prefer: dead tree or e-book?
