Hm. Funny you should mention this tactic, I actually have a similar story from high school

Holy shit, /lit/ is mostly females!

Hi /lit/. I've practiced writing often, but never seriously until recently. I've been looking up word counts to get an idea of what's what.

So anyway, I'm writing a short story. Barely anything has happened yet; an introductory scene and a few conversations, that's it. But when I check my word count, I am already over 2,500 words.

What the fuck. At this rate I'm going to have an unpublishable novelette. The novel I'm working on only has a skeleton timeline compared to my goal, and even then, that's just for one of the four characters whose lives I wish to follow, but what I have (if the short story is any judge) will provide at least 90K words. As I said, this is the VERY skeletal timeline for just ONE character. Lives intertwine, so there's wiggle room, but still.
My prose is relatively minimal so I doubt it's that (or at least, it isn't crammed with unnecessary verbiage).
Have any other writers experienced this feeling of toomuchtowrite? How did you deal with it?
How do you avoid this? With how little of a story I've told I don't see how anyone could even write a short story without breaking/approaching the limit of most competitions.

Euuuurgh. What sort of personal philosophy are you supposed to have when the majority of the world are plebs?

Is the sort of stuff in the greentext partly the reasons that you get people loving Lenin?

Political science is a liberal art, so I don't think this is off-topic. Does anyone else find it weird when you see political analysts on the BBC talking about politics as if analysing football games (and hyping up political leaders like they're managers)?

I'm a no friends loser but I feel protected by the inherent patricianness of books when compared to other forms of media, so I don't feel embarrassed when reading in public. Does anyone else share my feel?
