I started the first book of the Mage Errant series, Into the Labyrinth, yesterday and finished it just a bit ago. It had a rough start (i.e., poor bumpkin MC gets bullied by rich noble kid) but it turned into a surprisingly fun journey. Pacing was decent, no overuse of forced jokes, and the chemistry between the main characters feels natural. I'll continue with the rest of the series for now.
I'll probably end up finally dropping Regicide (Book 2 of The Completionist Chronicles) because I started it around two months ago and am not even halfway. I like the concept but I don't think I like the writing enough to continue.

The rest of the mainline Dragonlance books are fine although the Mira plot stretched on a bit too long for my taste. The books hold up well.

Recently I finished Edge of Eons, a self-published diamond dozen Western wuxia-type deal. It had well writing in some parts, other parts were trope-y (one character always has a grin, etc.) but the main character is written well enough. The story involves a police officer getting killed and isekai'd to Eon, a world of cultivation due to a dragon god calling in people from "other realms" to fight for him. The story is definitely average, and gets better as it goes along but plateaus. The finale isn't too bad and the epilogue is nice (very short PoV from the town MC & Friends are traveling to of another police officer MC knew who randomly disappeared years previously). One thing that aggravated me was the lack of consistency regarding pronouns, i.e., sometimes uppercase and sometimes lowercase.

A few days back, I finished Towers of Heaven. It was definitely litRPG to the max but the stat screens weren't too obtrusive. Involves MC going back in time to try and save the world, isn't deus ex machina'ing everything yet--just seems to know where to train and how to train effeciently, which is nice. However the underlying plot is fucking boring so far and it's overall a mediocre read. Shame to see the concept squandered so.

I'm pretty gosh darn high and I'm tempted to blaze (ha ha) right through the finale. I'm about to start the Mercy infodump chapter and I know shit is GOING DOWN at the end with Mercy getting hurt to trigger whatever ooga booga bad-thing-for-the-enemies, and the double advancement of Lindon (more like Linley amirite) and Yerin

I am 80% through Battle Mage. For the most part--as generic of a tale as it somewhat is--the writing is certainly tolerable. Aside from some rather oft-repeated isms (nodding, bowing, etc.), the descriptions and prose tend to be immersing.

Afterwards, I suppose I'll focus on finishing Book 2 of Coiling Dragon while alternating between that, a handful of chapters of Desolate Era a day, and whatever book I focus on next. Maybe I'll finish Darkest Revenge if I can find the interest, or start the first Cradle book.

Runeforged, about to finish it at around 90%. I downloaded SO MUCH FUCKING borderline wuxia shit last night FUCK I don't even know where to begin next.
>When was the last time you went to a library?
Last week when I was presenting my master's thesis data at a student conference, it was fun and anyone doing research was invited to attend.

>a lot of stuff I was looking forward to seeing isn't happening and characters I thought would be involved/around aren't even mentioned
I don't know how to feel about this but I'm bracing myself for moderate disappointment and am curious to see if the epilogues solve this issue.

The author of Shadow Stars claims his shit is all in the same universe at different points in time yet he already has another space series involving humanity becoming a galactic empire--whereas in this current series, humanity accidentally magic through a portal to an alt universe which is the only way they have held their own against the three main space factions currently monitoring them. I wonder how it'll tie up, I dunno y'all.

Two of my online buddies are getting into cosmere everything now.

nty, I'm not interested in the premise or the chink names. I have a sizable backlog as is, in no particular order:
>Shadow Stars
>Pawn of Prophecy
>Confessions of a Crap Artist
>Galactic Mage
>We Can Build You (I kinda dropped it though)
>Dr. Futurity
>Another Fine Myth (some Amazon random shit)
>A Scanner Darkly
>Winemaker of the North (more Amazon shit)
>Star Maker
>This Immortal
>the rest of Everybody Loves Large Chests
>the last two (out of five) omnibuses of PKD's short stories
>Trysmoon (if I decide to read it)
>Into the Abyss (same as above)
If you don't think Honey Bunches & Oats is the best cereal, you don't know SHIT about science-fiction and fantasy

Neoquest II was a good science-fantasy game with a surprising mindfuck.

I am currently reading All of an Instant and it is finally picking up but I feel the pacing drags on a bit.

What sci-fant books do a good job of harboring the border between with a twist (e.g., ancient ruins is actually a spaceship, etc.)
