Militaristic astro-imperialism. The destiny of Man is to conquer the stars. Every single bit of government discretionary spending should be invested in developing intergalactic travel and extra-planetary mining, terraforming, and colonization. Little do we know but there is everything we need in the galaxy. Endless resources, opportunities for expansion, adventure, unlimited wealth for even those of humble origins.

There is a diamond hurtling through space 50 light years away in the Centaurus system. It is 2,500 miles across (the moon is approximately 2,200 miles across) and weighs 5 million trillion trillion pounds. Similar mineral deposits beyond imagining abound.

The galactic federation would allow for local planatary colonies (first movers) to establish their own values and norms. There can be an all Christian planet, an all Muslim planet, an all whatever planet, so long as they stay in the union. Otherwise at the first sign of sedition they get nuked from orbit.

All alien species encountered would be analyzed for their technological threat level. If weaker, they will be utilized. If stronger, they will be ingratiated until the upper hand can be achieved.
