in Italian for example aside from borrowed "computer" one has 'calcolatore' which is synonymous with it, whereas the calculator(e.g pocket calc.) is called 'calcolatrice', so it's like male and female versions of the same word used for these two devices, maybe in purified english one could do the same thing from the basic root reckon- and using the old english derived feminine noun agent suffix, which should be -estre which I guess should turn into -estr into modern english though I don't know all the phonetic changes that happened aside from final -e dropping
