So how the fuck are you supposed to read fiction?

I have two ways, I either read rapidly and let my mind come up with the imagery and stuff but I end up losing out on a lot of information and prose is pretty much irrelevant this way.

Or I read steadily saying each word in my mind, this way always has a narrator but I soak up every word and prose is hella important.

Am I reading books wrong, or are there different methods?
