hur durr, more of Gardner's shill-spamming removed by the jannies.
Gardner would KILL for organic interest in his "work", like what's displayed in this thread.

Plus, your purple, twee, navel-gazing attempt at writing.
You're neither creative nor witty.
Why are you even here? You don't belong here.
All you do is humiliate yourself.

No, I just thought of them separately.
You're awfully certain about your paranoid ravings.
Also, I felt sorry for you.
Here's your lonely little thread, full of seething, and made HOURS after the other one.
(Seriously, do you understand 4chan culture at all? You come across as a newbie outsider.)
Now you have a couple more posts, and you can feel like less of an ignored seething loser.
You're welcome.
Here, have another anime picture. You know you love them.

Traditional Publishing
Pros:
>you get to focus mostly on writing
>you must write a proposal to the publishers and sell your story to them
>you make 10-15% profit max, but they also eat all the risk and the costs
>self publishing is basically like running your own company
>you only need to do some simple marketing and reach out to readers
Cons:
>you make 10-15% profit max
>self publishing you make 70%+
>they’ll still require you to do all the leg work of a self published author anyways

I grew up before ebooks were a thing so softbacks were the cheap way to get to read the book, so I can never hate them. Later I got into ebooks and read a ton on my kindle, but I still grab paperbacks at used bookstores because not everything is an ebook yet and sometimes I don't feel like reading on my kindle. If I'm out at the cafe reading on my kindle, nobody chats me up. (Only time it ever happened was someone asking me what the heck I was reading on, and if it was some new kind of smart phone.) But if I'm out reading a paperback where people can see the cover and title easily, they feel comfortable approaching. Hardbacks get about half as much approaches, unless you're in an airport reading a particularly interesting hardback book not being sold in the airport bookstore.

Now, if your goal is to impress others, that depends on the class of person you're trying to impress. I suspect OP's an academic of some kind. If your goal is the archival and preservation of knowledge, you want 4 HDDs, some bluray disks, and special acid free hardback book editions vacuum sealed hurricane-proof containers across two locations. At that point it's really less about the books and more about the fun of planning for doomsday.

For a proper introduction to Platonic metaphysics, philosophy and it's historical background that isn't butchered by academic caricatures:
>Eric D. Perl - Thinking Being
>Algis Uždavinys - Orpheus and the Roots of Platonism
>Kenneth Sylvan Guthrie - The Pythagorean Sourcebook and Library
>Lloyd P. Gerson - From Plato to Platonism

Middle Platonism:
>Stephen Gersh - Middle Platonism and Neoplatonism

Neoplatonism:
>Porphyry - Launching-Points to the Realm of Mind
>Llyod P. Gerson - Plotinus
>Gregory Shaw - Theurgy and the Soul
>Radek Chlup - Proclus
>Sara Rappe - Reading Neoplatonism

Christian Neoplatonism:
>Eric D. Perl - Theophany
>Eric D. Perl - Methexis
>Deirdre Carabine - The Unknown God
>Stephen Gersh - From Iamblichus to Eriugena
>Fran O'Rourke - Ps. Dionysius and the Metaphysics of Aquinas
>David Albertson - Mathematical Theologies
>Michael Allen - Ficino

Max Tegmark's Mathematical Universe is a great read too.

When reading Plato's Dialogues, a good practice would be to read them alongside Proclus' or Marsilio Ficino's commentaries.

Resources & notes:
If you can get the Loeb print of a text, opt for that. the Cooper transl. of Plato is fine.
Plotinus' Enneads + Commentary
>https://www.parmenides.com/publications/publications-plotinus.html
Proclus' Elements of Theology w/ Dodds’ commentary.
The Classics of Western Spirituality Series is good but with Ps. Dionysius, read the Rev. John Parker transl. instead:

I second it being the pinnacle of the medium.
Is it derivative? Yes.
Has anything else in any other medium ever managed to keep the sense of progress towards ever increasing impossibility and thriving through sheer force of will? No.

Yuru Yuri is my other favourite anime and I have no Gurren Lagann reaction pics gifs following a hard drive failure.

For a Hardcover copy of Herodotus, is the folio one good? It's got the selincourt translation which I've heard is the best and it's way cheaper than the landmark one (which I keep hearing has a shit translation).
