But to be fair to Ryuukishi's drawings, they do one thing better than any other artist could probably do instead of him, i.e. convey the characters' emotions as he sees them. Also it's still undeniably an anime style, you can't detach the works from the otaku culture that spawned them. Pandering to pseudo-intellectuals by trying to downplay this is futile, they will just hate anything anime because they know deep down that it will destroy their world of illusions if they honestly engage with it.
