I find that the most fascinating aspect of Elliot's character. He is very conformist in this way, he doesn't hate the social hierarchy because it divides people into winners and losers; he hates it because he's not a winner himself. I mean, if you were born a rich person, chances are you won't care about poor people problems. Same goes for Elliot, if he had been popular, he'd act no differently from his bullies. Of course, that doesn't mean he isn't sympathetic towards fellow losers like him, he just hates it when they aren't as resentful as he is.
