I read Titus Groan and wasn't sure what to make of it, but it stuck in my mind enough that I'm sure I'll read Gormenghast now. It was an odd combination of ridiculous characters with serious and dark content that I'm still not sure if I like. That said I really enjoyed the prose and characterization, felt the need to read some passages aloud to myself. I'm worried about continuing because his mind was in pretty steep decline when he wrote the third book.

Also this is trivial but I hate the cover you're using. IDK if Peake drew this but it's much closer to his actual drawings, and is more representative of the story.

So I just got to the chapter "Irma wants a party" and am wondering, what the fuck is the point of all this? I know a bit of how Gormenhast ends and what Titus Alone is about, so why this shit? Why spend time with the headmasters? Why is this trilogy so bloated?
