Tolkien is objectively the greatest author of the 20th century. If you disagree you're a pseud.

> inserts his boring daydream fantasy into it
> addd bible parallels so obvious that a blind man could see them
> people swallow it so hard they also eat the hook and the whole fishing rod

Why is this guy so popular? The story is so unbearably dry and it spawned arguably the most low-quality genre that exists today. People only like it cause it is so sterile and safe and because the movies had insande production value

TOLKIEN is the greatest Anglo bugman. He was the first fantasy author to put his mythology into a rigid autistic system wherein they become devoid of both meaning and aesthetic quality - he lamented the passing of meaning from the world, but in reality he was the great destroyer: he has dealt immense damage both to fantasy literature and the human mind
People who become "fans" of Middle-Earth or some Tolkienesque world are like prisoners trapped inside a polyhedron whose every face is a mirror that reflects the other faces and their reflections ad infinitum
But to this monstrous edifice there is no depth, nothing below the surface: one shallow aesthetic idea refers to one another in a hyperlink nightmare
Leave it to a Catholic to come up with the best representation of purgatory

Why does everyone dismiss accusations of plagiarism and outright theft when thrown at Tolkien?
People are quick to cite that X stole from Y and Z, but when it comes to Tolkien they walk on egg shells, like he's immune to THAT specific criticism.

>Stole names from the Edda
>Stole character arcs (Sigurd)
>Stole manner of slaying dragons (Sigurd again)
>Stole the concept of a cursed / blessed sword
>Stole from Norse Mythology
>Stole from the Kalevala non-stop
>Stole creatures from Norse, Germanic and Slavic Pagan Folktales

Martin re-wrote Historical Events under the guise of OC and got praised for it, yet was equally criticised by people with a tentive eye to History.
Sapkowski plagiarised the entirety of his universe and main character off Moorcock and people are not shy to call him out on this.
I mentioned these two as the most obvious examples so people understand exactly what I'm talking about.

Why doesn't Tolkien get the same treatment? As soon as his name is brought up in this discussion, people say "Oh, he was merely inspired" when he stole word for word and event for event from other works.

What the fuck is it about him?

i am sure this idea has been discussed before but i wanted to make a thread here. in lotr, the way he refers to saruman's operations as a bunch of iron, smoke, and wheels gives the impression that technological industry is evil. also saruman tries to persuade gandalf to join him by offering order, power, and knowledge.

Education no longer has a humanist end or any value in itself; it has only one goal, to create technicians.
