Friends are overrated. They consume most of your free time and, unless they're extremely adventurous, leave you a boring hollow shell of a person.

That said, go to a bar, get a job. Start talking to people and crack jokes. After you talk to them for a while, ask them if they drink or smoke weed. It's not hard to make friends, you just have to realize that most people don't give a shit about literature or philosophy.

I don't know, I've actually made some pretty intelligent friends by going to record stores and book stores. Join a chess or theater club.

I mean, in all honesty, just stop being a pussy. Even if you think you're being annoying (You probably are. Who cares?) talk to as many people as possible. You'll never make friends if you don't talk, and that's a fact.

Im looking for a word /lit/, a word im certain exists.

A friend of mine is going on a cruise, but will spend the entire trip on the boat, despite it travelling all around the Caribbean. When asked why she says "thats what I paid for", and quickly changes the subject

She stays in her comfort zone 100% of the time, and never tries anything new or has any ambition at all. Always in a perfect fantasy land of Disney and nice things, completely ignorant (by choice) of the world.

Whats the word for this?
My co-worker came up with "fluffy", but I think it lacks eloquence.

To my co-workers credit, I couldnt come up with anything better.
Unfired?
hyper-cautious?
Naive by choice?

Help me /lit/ your my only hope

Pic unrelated

I never got this. Why not just read what you enjoy as opposed to what Bloom enjoys? I mean, if you spend your whole life trying to read what's in the canon then odds are you're going to miss out on a lot of stuff you'd enjoy that isn't. Yeah, Bloom is an educated guy and his opinion is probably one that should carry a lot of weight, but Bloom's opinion is just that, Bloom's opinion. To not indulge yourself in a little literary freedom every once in a while is pretty much just ego-masturbation. "I read only the finest literature and could never be bothered with such filth as that." is pretty much the battle cry of the pompous. Read what you like.
