Hmm. Will post a part of my story that I'm having trouble with just on the off chance that this thread may still serve as a traditional critique thread.

a familiar euphoria ran through him that was beginning to become a part of a queer routine in which he felt that he was slowly transitioning into another reality somehow truer than the world where he lived despite its need for intoxication. There in his seat he saw the night above and beyond his fence as the true realm of possibility in the experiment of existence but felt also as a certainty that it would only continue so long as he remained here in his dying yard as the lynchpin to the entire thing.

I know that in order to get better you have to write everyday and honestly it does work. I've been writing just about every day and I can really see an improvement from about 4 months ago when I started the habit.

But there are certain things I feel like I can't improve through just practice, mainly advanced kinds of grammar, people often tell me in critique threads that my grammar is off. But to me this seems weird, in essays at uni I always seem to get really high marks in the spelling and grammar sections.

I'm thinking this just means there's more that I could learn if I was doing an English degree or something. I really wish I could but my family isn't really rich so I kind of have to make the decision to get something a little more practical.

How can I learn these things that have to be taught while not doing an English degree? Is there a particular book that is the best for this? Maybe an online tutor type thing?
