What is the edgiest -ism and why?

I'm afraid of being edgy. "Edgy" is my new personal boogeyman. Every time I write something that's vaguely controversial, anti-social or uses any kind of science really, the word "edgy" pops into my brain and completely derails me. You guys did this to me. Now all I write is boring stuff like descriptions of buildings and mundane interactions between normal, well adjusted people. It feels forced and inauthentic.

Please help me understand. Why is "edgy" so bad?
