Look I'm going to do the needful and try to become a financial safety net for myself and my family. I think I can, and when things get bad, they're going to rely on my prior forethought and planning.

I agree that excess of wealth is bad and you should be helping the downtrodden when you can, but people throw this quote around like they expect you to never be financially secure. I've seen a lot of communists doing this lately.

What benefit is there for an author to come out as a conservative instead of keeping his mouth shut? If he's actually any good, it will be denied on its face, and he will be boycotted; if he's bad, he will become a billboard for poor conservative art. Worst of all people on the right won't even turn out to negate the bulk of the damage done. Truly, it seems the best thing to do is to make good art and keep your political leanings to yourself.
