Well you need to know how you believe time works like if it's linear, cyclical or hierarchical and what variables best dictates what's happening.

You have to understand what religion is. The start of religion is the concept of death (imo) and through this foundation we see religion develop.

Burial culture > ancestor veneration > sacrifice culture (animals) > animism > astrology > sacrifice culture (humans) > paganism > monotheism > Jesus sacrifice.
Idk where some elements are and that's not formal but rebirth cycles is another bit. I know Mayans had rebirth cycles mixed in w astrology so again it's not formal. Either way we can see that East Asians had these developments as well. I'm not sure that it never developed past animism but I will say given the nature Christianity and Islam have had in influence on China I would say that Chinese spiritual developments were strong in their direction. What does that mean? Something did what it was going to do given the external variables affecting it? Sounds like it did exactly what it was going to and you couldn't predict it with your historicism.

I would check 50s movies, you might find a lot of awkward flirting on cameras and the beginning of early degeneracy.

Marxists think class warfare and dialectical materialism are the two fundamental driving forces of humanity. With this they tried to predict history and you could measure the success of their theory with reality. It allowed forward predictions rather than consequentualist accumulation of facts.
Now sex as a fundamental driving force? Hmmm. I couldn't accept that. Try formalizing that and seeing if you can answer your question yourself.

Sounds like they have a different metaphysics that they used to derive A different historicism leading them to believe that studying classics doesn't necessitate some language or cultural historicism to grab the basic facts.
