Friend, I do not think we read the same novel, that or my memory has genuinely failed me because I don't remember any such events happening in RI.

So, 50 pages of fantasy section on amazon, excluding Sapowski, Tolkien and GRR Martin, there is hardly a single book that is written by a male author: that has a strong male protagonist and doesnt use current social justice issues as a plot theme. I knew the fantasy situation wasnt great (and scifi is no better) but it really is starting to look dire.

>reading something, or doing something, forget what it was
>suddenly realise: happy -> happiness
>You: "Ok, so who cares?"
>realise that: busy-> business

Damn... I always saw all of it as banal but even the language admits it. The wagecuck meme was not a meme

Why does literature and literary culture engender so much pseudo intellectualism?

Is it because the intellectual world expanded from spewing unfalsifiable theories of philosophy and theology to many types of science, mathematics, engineering, social sciences, and practical subjects, with literary types not realising that mere words don't give an understanding of these areas or the ability to do well at them?

Is it because of a pride at literature's relatively primitive technology compared to film etc. while not noticing, willfully or not, that literature has technology and certain economic factors promoting books of certain formats and discouraging others?

Is it the loss of potentially talented literary figures to other subjects, leaving the dregs?

Is it the denial of literature's role as entertainment, which promotes half baked philosophising?

Is it the lack of potential economic return, which discourages men from taking part, and leaving the culture as an attention whoring tool for women?

I'll update it every few sub-sub chapters.

Book 7 Alyosha

>read chapter called "Alyosha" in the brothers Karamazov
>starts with fedoras and christfags fretting over whether what a holy man's dead body having a smell means
>rakitin randomly invites Alyosha to grushenka's house
>rakitin is a beta orbiter for grushenka, a mistress and attention whore
>grushenka sits on Alyosha's lap and presumably Alyosha is a naive and innocent Chad
>they talk for a bit and grushenka goes from flirty to hysterically attention whorish

Damn... How profound! Psychological and philisopical insights everywhere!

I'm half convinced that the awkward formality of Russian translated faithfully to English adds a lot of pretension. A lot of what Dostoevsky writes is unbelievably petty. You may think that he is "Incredibly Deep Literature" but he did not take the royal road in to that territory.
