Sup /lit/

I haven't read anything of value in a long time. When I was younger, all I did was read, and I feel like my prolonged leave of absence from literature has had a negative effect on my psyche.

I want to start with some 19th century or early 20th century lit. Preferably something vaguely gothic in nature. I have no idea if you guys read that sort of stuff here, but regardless...

If I enjoyed Hawthorne and Poe, what else should I read? Satires from the same time period are acceptable as well.

I'm reading The Scarlet Letter for the first time and I'm really enjoying SOME parts of it.

Many of Hawthorne's descriptions and character elaborations are a tad too verbose or awkwardly worded for my taste. I get to the end of some huge sections of text and wonder "what the fuck did I just read?"

The parts in which shit actually HAPPENS i.e. character interactions and such are where it really starts to interest me, but so far those sections are short, few, and far between.

Overall I'm just not that pleased with it so far, but I'm nowhere near qualified to even evaluate the literary skills of a fifth grader.

Is there something I'm missing here or should I get myself checked for ADD?

It has since shaped the way I write.

What's the moral of the story lit? That christfags are silly? Hawthorne seems like he's grindin some axe, but I can't grasp it

Yes, I read it in highschool, and yes, I mad.

I could not read this book. This is the only time in my life I've had to use Sparknotes. No, I'm not proud, but god damn, this was a piece of shit.
