Joshua Cohen's "Witz"

Halp.

Has anyone actually got through this? About 50 pages in and wondering if continuing is worth the trouble. Also are there any resources to assist with its reading?

Is this book defensible or is it the worst attempt at updating Joyce for the 21st century ever written?

Anyone read Witz? It won't be the longest I'll have read, but its long enough to ask if it's worth the time.

How many of you read the more contemporary works that The Dalkey Archive publishes? Have you read anything that you thought to be truly remarkable?

So far, I've only read a little of what they publish but I was surprised by Joshua Cohen's Witz. Incredibly impressive prose and a very well realized artistic vision for a man who is in his mid 30s.

Anyone read pic related? Haven't seen any discussion on here about it.

you like big esoteric tomes: Ulysses, The Magic Mountain, The Recognitions, Gravity's Rainbow, That one with all the endnotes– I was curious if anyone here had read pic related.

I'm familiar with Joshua Cohen from Harper's where I think he's a Lieutenant Editor or something; anyways I've read at least a few of his short stories and more than a few of his book reviews, but those were necessarily written in a more transparent style. All I can seem to find in the way of reviews are fawning New Yorker sort of pieces (which I mistrust because they play into that Bigapplecentrism I'm so sick of) and Goodreads sort of diatribes (which I mistrust because of their "The Emperor's New Clothes" complexes.) Now I'm not expecting the dawn of a new paradigm in Literature or anything, I'm only looking for something a little more contemporary and different to read, something fun. Is Witz that? Does anybody know?
