This is exactly why nobody takes video games seriously as an artform. Quoting philosophy doesn't make you look smart at all. Fucking hell, the Greek philosophers even talked about people who namedrop philosophers just to look smart, but aren't.

Probably Ancient Greek. It looks hard as shit to learn, but has a wealth of literature. Besides, every single philosopher (and author I liked) worth a damn learned it anyway, so I'm thinking about making an attempt.

The answer's Hegel and it's not even close. His ideas were so astronomically terrible for the world that we still feel its consequences today. Also his supposed "fans" cannot summarize his own works tells you everything you need to know. He practically ruined philosophy.
Honorable mentions: Bertrand Russell (for pretty much having every single opinion that lacks nuance, also people that describe him as the first redditor are correct), Jean-Paul Sartre (embraced the virtue of selfishness, "his magnum opus is a breathtaking contribution to Marxist thought", really all you need to know about that faggot, it's no wonder redditors also like him), Frederich Nietzsche (other than his criticisms of Christianity and the idea of "Master Morality vs Slave Morality, he has been wrong about pretty much everything also), and Slavoj Žižek (I struggle to consider him to be a philosopher other than a "celebrity philosopher" , basically the Kim Kardashian of philosophy except people take him seriously, also his stances are not consistent at all).

Lol no, I can't remember the last time I saw someone with a book in their hands to read. Hell, my mother use to read books in the bathtub (schlocky romance books, but books nonetheless), and now just uses her phone and computer to read news articles, bitch about politics, and read & respond to facebook posts all day. Whenever she does get interested in a book, she ends up watching a movie adaptation of it, that recent horrid Dune movie comes to mind.
The amount of people that read has gone into freefall in the last 20 years. It's kind of sad to see the state of it.

It comes from people who watch movies and TV shows. Those mediums have no choice but to entertain first and foremost and be optionally sophisticated as a secondary.
I really wish TV/film was half the medium people think it is. You just can’t make anything deep with it.
