hey anons,

Recently, I started writing small essays (sometimes letters or dialogues) about personal matters or some academic stuff I talked with friends. It helps me think. I often found it to be quite therapeutic, but I would also like to do it right. so it's also a joy to read when I return to it later.

Could you reccommend any books related specifically to essay writing? (Not the schoolish academic anglo-saxon way, but for example like Calvino, Levi, Montaigne etc)

are essays the best form of non-fiction? why read a 500 page slog that could have been written in half the amount of pages when you can read a whole collection of essays covering a wide array of topics?

Hey /lit/, I enjoyed writing essays as a teenager and want to get back into it. I want to move past book-report-tier essays though. I'm looking for a starting point to learn how good essays are written. Pic related has a lot of names; are any of them useful to someone just getting started with essays? Do you have any personal recommendations?

I'm wanting to work on a travel literature one next, if anyone has books to recommend for that. I have a list going myself, but maybe there's a few more people here interested in travel lit than essays.
