How come I fantasize about having multiple wives when I can't even get a single gf? I've slept with girls but I have never been in a longterm relationship.

My ex-girlfriend was very much into literature and philosophy and definitely an intelligent girl. However, she was a very psychologically unstable person, was very mentally abusive towards me both as a boyfriend and a friend, had frequent nervous breakdowns, a very destructive existential crisis (possibly fueled by the authors that she read and enjoyed wallowing in further), often suicidal, maniacal, depressive and had issues with anorexia and bulimia as well.

Of course, I'm not trying to stereotype girls or anything like that at all. But personally, because of those awful years (which, to be honest, are still going on, since I am still a friend to her despite breaking up a long time ago), I will forever steer away from any girl that reminds me of this. I've even steered away from literature and writing for a year or so, but I'm starting to regain my courage to be interested in stuff like this.

ITT: Things that would make you instantly throw the book you're reading into the trash bin

> The protag of the fiction book you're reading ends his journey by revealing that he is currently writing a book about his life and the title of this autobiography is the same as the book you're currently reading

So I'm looking for the name of a book I read back in high school. I need your help.

I'll just keep it in greentext format:
>French play
>MC is a fencer, who can also sing and is pretty popular
>Some dude is hating on him and challenges him to a duel at some point in the novel
>Popular guy joins some army in a war
>Title of play is the name of the MC

That's all I remember. It's been bothering me for months.

Please help.

(I may have some details wrong because it's been years, but that's what I remember happening in the book.)

I NEVER thought about the clear parallels between Plato's Cave and the Matrix. Thanks.
